As you reach Nungambakkam, after wading through the heavy traffic in the area, chances are high that you might end up looking out for Rutland Gate and would have to ask around. The narrow winding lane that runs parallel to the popular Khader Nawaz Khan Road is probably one of the most uber-plush and stylish lanes of the city. It is also one of the least crowded and offer a respite from pushing and shoving overenthusiastic shoppers. The quiet lane houses designer Ritu Kumar’s standalone store. The ace designer, known for her adherence to traditional wear, has a range of sarees, lehengas, salwar suits, kurtas and dresses on offer. While Ritu does have a store at a popular mall in the city (Phoenix MarketCity), the gigantic space  and the amazing variety of pret and couture will just make your day.  Another store worth checking out is local boy Vivek Karunakaran’s store right next to Ritu Kumar’s store. One among a handful of city-based designers, who have managed to make a name at national fashion events including Lakme Fashion Week, the store offers gamut of options. The designer is known for his minimalistic designs and clean cuts.  If you are looking for accessories and are a diamond-fanatic, then just walk upto the CaratLane shop. It has some enviable creations that can add some sparkle in your lives.
