On a particularly difficult day, a sinful dessert can bring a ray of hope and induce much-needed cheer. Desserts are known to trigger happy hormones and let’s accept it, we all crave for desserts from time to time. A new dessert line in town, (located within the premise of Kapao Dos café) in Wellington Estate, Ethiraj Salai, intends to fulfill all our sweet craving. Started by patisserie chef, Ankita Sood, Crumb is all about satiating sugar cravings with some super creative desserts.

24 Layered Cake

Their star item is a cake called 24, which as you might have guessed has about 24 layers of decadence and includes mud sponge, chocolate mousse, salted caramel and butterscotch. Well, one bite of this heavenly dessert and we were transformed to la la land! You can experience the richness of chocolate, soft texture of sponge, the slightly salty caramel and the crunch of butterscotch; all at once. It is difficult to finish a slice of this massive cake on your own, so we suggest you take along your gang.

Their other decadent offering is the Magnum Punch sundae that where the classic Magnum chocolate stick is served in a bowl of chocolate cupcake and Dark Fantasy, doused in chocolate sauce with some strawberry compote and topped with toasted almonds. This sundae is truly the baap of all sundaes!

They also prepare desserts with our favourite liquor brands – Old Monk and Jack Daniels. Rum fans should give a shot to Monk-ey Business that comprises of chocolate mud sponge, vanilla sable, raspberry compote, a chocolate ganache, toasted almonds and of course, Old Monk. If you are a JD person, they have a dessert called Coffee & Jack for you that is prepared with Devil’s sponge, mocha buttercream and Jack Daniels.

If you are not big on chocolate, do try the extremely summery dessert – their version of the classic Eton Mess. For the uninitiated, the Eton Mess is a mixture of strawberries, broken meringue, and whipped double cream. The Crumb version is prepared with strawberries, lemon chiffon, white chocolate and meringue. It is light and fruity – perfect for the weather.

The dessert line also has delicious cupcakes, macarons, brownies and cookies in its roster.

Ankita is soon planning to start a takeaway set-up in Alwarpet to cater to a larger clientele.

Feeling mid-week blues? Head to Crumb for a delicious dessert.
