It is a hidden gem in the city. Located amidst the plush bungalows of Neelangarai on ECR, as you follow the well-placed sign boards, you find the wonderfully elusive East Coast at Madras Square. For all those familiar with the area, this was formerly the Madras Square. But it has been majorly revamped to create a space where you can unwind over good food and liquor. It’s location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, has always been its biggest draw.

It is a massive property divided into three different seating areas, outdoors and indoors. There is no loud, thumping music to stand as impediment to long conversations and the restaurant has a well-stocked bar, which churns out delightful cocktails. East Coast at Madras Square is perfect for family nights and catching up with old friends. They also have a giant screen for live matches and you can expect them to air the evening FIFA World Cup 2018 matches.

We went on a weekday evening to try out the place and were served some delicious Continental and Indian food with some great beer. Among starters, we tried the Murgh Malai Kebab, the juicy chicken chunks had been marinated in cheese and yogurt and subsequently, skewer roasted in clay oven. It is served along with a tangy mint chutney.

They also created a wonderful Sambousek Jibneh, a Lebanese vegetarian delicacy, where thin flour dough is stuffed with four cheese varieties and this is serve it with a spicy relish at the restaurant. For a change of palate, we also tried out the Citrus and Honey Salad, which was refreshing with orange, bell peppers, onions, raisins, lettuce and nuts topped with a honey dressing.

The main course was a mix of Indian and Continental. We went for the Spinach and Corn Bake served with a giant garlic bread. The bake was generous in proportion, cheesy and quite satiating. From the Indian section, we gave a shot to their Dal Makhni and Mutton Roghan Josh along with Garlic Naan. It was quite well-prepared. The creaminess of the dal, the richness of the mutton curry and the thin, flaky naan made for a perfect Indian meal. Along with our food, we chugged on some chilled beer. We finished the meal with a lovely Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake.
