The Milky Way complex (Wellington Estate) on Ethiraj Salai, Egmore is fast becoming a foodie paradise. It presents a wide range of choices and has everything from authentic North East Indian cuisine, Punjabi khana to chaats and shakes. But one outlet that really caught our interest was the casual joint with a whacky name, Kapao Dos. As we stepped in colourful pop art posters greeted us and once you check out the menu, you know that the place is a haven for students.

Started by chef-turned-entrepreneur Rohan Nandakumar, this is the second outlet by the young restauranteur. The first one is in Ramapuram, opposite SRM Eashwari college and is called Kapao. “I want to offer quality food at a reasonable price to all. Our breads, dips and sauces are all made at our central facility at Valasaravakkam so that the standards are strongly monitored,” says Rohan, as he sits down to offer some of their specialties. The name, Kapao Dos, is just one of those expressions, that comics fan will immediately relate to and identify with. Most of the dishes are priced below Rs 200.

The momos are sensational – both the steamed and fried versions. The accompanying chilly dip might be hot for some but we loved it.

We also tried the panini sandwiches and burgers. The softness of bread, freshness of veggies, flavourful sauces and the chunky meat pieces made our evening. Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties are filling. They also have an option of creating your own pasta box by picking your ingredients and sauce.

We finished the meal with a sinful Nutella brownie, that was rich and gooey. Perfect end to the delicious meal!
