Handcrafted and hand-woven products always hold a special place in our heart. They make us feel desired and establish an instant relation with the maker. By Hand From The Heart is a makers-focused community event. It features slow design studios, independent designers/makers, sustainable design companies, ethnic art & craft clusters, artists, food entrepreneurs, food artisans, farmers and art & craft businesses from all across India and abroad. It was started in 2011 by Deepa Sekar and Kshiti Davey and has successfully completed 19 editions. The 20th edition will be held on July 7 and 8 at Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park hotel, Alwarpet.

“The market showcases thoughtful and consciously designed products that are unique, high on aesthetics and practical value. It is one of Chennai’s most original marketplaces – a coming together of the maker and the customer-in a refreshingly unique celebration of all things created by hand,” says Deepa, co-founder of the event.

The event will feature 30 participants in the market place as well as include food talks and talks by other makers. Besides the display for sale, makers are also invited to address at the talks conducted at the market. The intention here is to seed the habit of conscious consumption.

You can choose to pick unique jewellery pieces by designer, Razia Kunj of Razia Kunj Art & Facts which is inspired by art from the walls of galleries and temples, Indian folklore, dance forms and tribal art and from forgotten nook and crannies of rural India; fashionable and fun hand embroidered brooches by Minakshi Rathi of The Mojo Studio; organic clothing and brass jewellery by Varsha Devjani of The Sufi Studio, handcrafted paper flowers and cards by Greeshma Haridasan of pot of eARTH; block printed home furnishings, T-shirts and umbrellas by Divya of Hastha; ceramic tableware and decor by Sonny Deenadayalan of The Potter’s Shed or artisanal jams and sauces by food entrepreneur, Fouziya Kutty. The list goes on!
