The area around the Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar has become a food haven for most Chennaiites. Vada pav, momos, burgers, rolls, pizza, popsicles, shawarmas and waffles – you name it, you get it! The latest addition the list is the Turkish Mud Coffee stall, Mud Koffee. Brewed in a unique copper vessel on a hot sand pit, it is quite a fascinating watch and the social media posts are flooded with videos and photos from this beverage stall.

Turkish coffee uses special brewing method and is made unfiltered with finely ground coffee beans (so fine that they resemble the texture of cocoa powder) and thus, often referred to Mud Coffee. The ground beans are boiled with sugar in a special coffee pot called a cezve or ibrik.

While the Turkish coffee is predominantly consumed in black form, the Bessy Mud Koffee stall does add milk to it. The brew is strong and the coffee is quite delicious.

The stall is currently open during the evenings. Do try it out!
