Physical and mental fitness is an absolute essential to thrive in modern competitive lifestyle. Parkour originated in its current avatar in 1980s France and has emerged as a great training method that works towards both mental and physical well-being. It includes running, climbing, swingingvaulting, jumping, rollingquadrupedal movement, and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation. While there are parkour groups in the city that operate in parks and open spaces, there was no exclusive gym for the same. Parkour Pod, located in Defence Colony in Ekkatuthangal, Guindy is the first space dedicated exclusively to the training method.

It features an open area with complex bar scaffolding structures, vault boxes and safety landing mats for practicing Parkour movements. The gym also features an indoor space dedicated for calisthenics and weight training. The goal of Parkour is to move from point A to point B across any landscape in the fastest way possible using the most efficient movements over obstacles. These movements include running, vaulting, rolling, climbing and jumping with great accuracy and control. Practitioners of Parkour are generally called traceurs. The word was coined as they ‘trace’ a path through an urban environment.

Parkour Pod’s sessions will benefit kids aged 5 to adults aged even above 50. The parkour classes will appeal to anyone interested in general fitness or movement arts and can fulfill the fitness and recreational needs of kids, teenagers, college students, young and middle-aged working professionals and senior citizens as well.
