On a pleasant Saturday evening after playing a game of Frisbee with friends at the Bessie beach, we decided to head to city’s first beach-side bar, BOATS ( expands to Based On A True Story). It is located near the Dindigul Thalapakatti restaurant and right next to Brick House Bistro. While we had reached in a bit early for the party mood to set in (Around 7 pm!), we were pleasantly surprised that the place was almost full. Interestingly while many resto-bars in the city have formal dress code for men, Boats did allow men in Bermudas and flip-flops (probably keeping in mind the beach-inspired theme of the place)

With catamaran benches, glass table-tops showcasing sand and shells at the bottom, walls with boxes filled with paper boats, pebbles and shells and the awesome view of the beach, the place was bustling with weekend revelers when we walked in. The new resto-bar has been launched by Arun Prakash, Dilip Rogger, Raj Kamal and Arasu Dennis. The place is not intended to be just a party place. We are told that it is meant to be a place to catch up with people, talk and exchange stories, hence the name. The bar also has minimalist posters of classics like The Motorcycle Diaries, Gandhi and others.

The menu has everything you can think of under the sun. From chicken wings, nachos, Vietnamese rolls to  molaga bajjis, kebabs and tikkas and pizzas, pastas, burgers, steaks, nasi gorenge; they have it all. We loved the Hawaiian-themed delicious cocktails and heady daiquiris.

So next time you are looking out for a hanging out spot a Bessie, just head to Boats! You won’t be disappointed!
