Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram is an impressive structure, that is hard to miss. The built-up area of this centralized air-conditioned library is 3.75 lakh sq. ft. At present, it has five lakh books covering wide range of subjects to serve the information needs of the public, academic and corporate community. It also has a Braille Section, Own Books Reading Section, Children Section, Periodicals and Newspapers Section, Tamil books Section and English Books Section.
But before you check out this awesome library, there are a few things you should know. That is, at entrance you should leave your bags in the counter with a token and you are supposed to mark your entry at the reception. After that you are free to explore the library.
In case, you feel you are hungry while poring over books, there is an excellent food court at the back of the library main building. Right from starters, snacks, fresh juices to meals, they have it all at a reasonable price.
The Highlights :
At each floor, there is a map that gives details about what books to find and which section to visit. The reception area has comfy couches where you can sit and wait for your friends, who are joining you late for group study.
The ground floor consists of a Braille section where there are embossed collections and high tech computerised books for the visually challenged. There are also Braille instructors to guide them through the stacks.
There is a section called Own Books Section where you can bring your own books to study in a peaceful set-up. There is also a separate collection of all competitive exam books. Each floor has OPAC systems and recliners, where you can lie back comfortably. Also, each floor has its own set of customised large study tables with an excellent view.
After the long exploration of books in the library, you can treat yourself to a refreshingly chilling bottle of Badam Milk from an Aavin stall in the premises.
