The Mumbai-based street food outlet, Desi Klub launched its first franchise in Chennai last year and over the last few months, it has become the go-to place for street food, albeit with a twist. From their overtly popular Panipuri Shots (that serves the pani from mini tankers and is an Instagram favourite from Day One) to the absolutely sinful and much-talked about Chocolate Thali with eight chocolate-based items in it; the place has managed to offer innovative fare to vegetarian foodies in town.
Now they have gone ahead and expanded their menu. They have a filling North Indian Thali, priced at just INR 199 on offer. The thali includes a dal, two gravies, kadhi, tandoori roti, rice, pickle, curd, papad and a sweet. It is meant to be a filling lunch or dinner option for all those who crave for authentic North Indian food.
We also loved the newly-introduced Baked Vada Pav, that has the vada stuffed inside the pav, slathered with butter and baked to perfection. It is a more compact, less sinful variety of regular vada pav and tastes glorious. To accompany our snack, we were served the ‘in-season’ drink, Mango Duet that comes with a Mango popsicle dipped in a mango slush. It was quite refreshing, fun and of course, mangolicious!
They have also added a tandoori menu that has delicious North Indian curries accompanied with tandoori roti or any other bread of choice – like a combo. If you don’t have ample space in tummy to polish off the thali, then this should be your preferred option. We tried the Kadhai Paneer along with their creation, Reshmi Paratha, a light and rather flaky variety of paratha. You can also opt for Butter Naan, Roomali Roti, Puri or Chapathi.
To end your meal at Desi Klub, do try out their special dessert, Mukhwas. It is a paan-flavoured cheesecake with thandaai shots and a paan jelly. Sounds interesting, much?
While we are at it, we should also tell you that the premise also has a banquet hall, which you can book for parties or meetings.
