The Fabindia outlets on TTK Road and Besant Nagar are difficult to miss and if you have been to these places recently, you would have noticed they have been revamped to create phenomenal Fabindia Experience Centres. Apart from offering shopping with an awesome experience, they now have the much-talked about, Fabcafe. With outlets in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, Fabcafe made its grand entry in namma Chennai early this month. We had a chance to visit the Bessy outlet over weekend and fell in love with the place.
The health café is situated on the third floor of the Experience Centre and has a beautiful sea-view. It is spacious, day-lit and cheerful-perfect for a weekend brunch plan. Fabcafe calls itself ‘Inspired Indian bistro’. The cafe celebrates India’s diverse cuisine and brings a wide array of dishes representative of various parts of the country. It also balances healthy, gluten-free, sugar-free et al with many traditional Indian dishes, drinks and desserts.
The place offers an all-day breakfast menu which includes dishes like Ajwain Croissant Breakfast Sandwich with egg and bacon, Egg Akuri, Oatmeal Pancakes, Red Rice Uttapam Trio, Mutter Paneer Paratha with Cashew Cheese, Smoothie Bowl, Tomato Masala Shakshuka, Himalayan Superfood Granola with Yogurt and more. They also have a range of smoothies, shakes, slow-pressed juices, tea, coffee and coolers.
We started our meal with a fresh Ganna Juice with ginger and rock salt (sugarcane juice), Mango Mint Smoothie and Rainbow Salad (Mixed Greens, beetroot, carrot, sprout peppers and pumpkin seeds with basil balsamic dressing). They have other salad choices like Shakarkandi Chaat Salad, Quinoa Pomegranate Salad and Kacha Papita Salad.
For appetisers, do not miss their outstanding Beetroot Lotus Stem Tikki Chaat – one of the most innovative dishes we have tasted recently. The aloo-tikki chaat gets a super healthy twist with beetroot and lotus stem and although, initially apprehensive, we really loved the flavours and texture of this dish. From the non-vegetarian section, we loved the Grilled Fish topped with Fenugreek and Coriander Pesto served on bed of veggies. The fish was well-cooked and the pesto was mild yet very apparent. This section boasts of items like Baked Dal Samosa with Chutney Trio, Gluten-Free Chicken Momos, Mutton Galouti on Mini Kuttu Bread and Tandoori Tofu Rumali Tokri.
The main course has a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries served along with healthy breads like jackfruit flour chapati, six-grain paratha, quinoa chapatti, brown rice and red rice. We tried the Fabcafe Dal Makhani and Parsi Chicken Dhansak with the three kinds of breads of mentioned above. The curries were light and flavourful while we absolutely loved the six-grain paratha. They also have options like Rajasthani Gatta Curry, Punjabi Saag with Paneer, Bengali Fish Curry, Chicken Chettinad, Kerala Fish Molee and Lakhnavi Mutton Cashew Korma.
We also suggest you should definitely try their dessert. They are delicious yet come with much less sin attached to it! We tried their Caramelised Banana Cake , which was grain free and prepared with banana flour and ripe bananas topped with caramelised bananas. It was simply the best we have had in a while! They have choices like Baked Strawberry Nolen Gur Cheesecake, Himalayan Organic Honey and Walnut Tart, Grain Free Chocolate Cake and Orange Saffron Pound Cake.
Fabcafe sticks to simple, popular dishes from across India while adhering to nutritional principles. Based on your dietary options, you can go for Wheat free, Dairy Free, Vegan, Low Carb or Paleo (free of grains, dairy, legumes & sugar) varieties in vegetarian or non-vegetarian dishes.
