Over the last two decades, Copper Chimney has been synonymous with North Indian cuisine in the city. In order to celebrate 25 years of being in Chennai, Copper Chimney recently opened its doors to discerning patrons in the Phoenix Marketcity in Velachery. They have quite a few additions to the menu and have amped up the décor.

The new outlet is contemporary with wooden dado, tiled pattern flooring and textured walls. Copper accents are juxtaposed against fresh wood tones and earthy cane. There is a little corner showcasing unique spice blends and artisanal pickles, which might be up for sale soon. We loved the copper bells installation and the legacy stories incorporated as the second layer to the space. It also has a live kitchen, where you can look at chefs preparing the food.

They have incorporated coolers, that are sold on the streets in north, as a part of their menu. Do try their refreshing Delhi Shikanji, Khatta Jaljeera and Lemon Chai Sherbet. It also has a select range of high quality teas sourced from the finest sustainable estates across the country. The teas can be paired with their starter plates or be consumed as a perfect conclusion to a meal.

The menu celebrates food from Peshawar to Delhi. Choose from the Tawa Imli Aloo, a North Indian street specialty; Chargrilled Cheese Mushrooms, the richness of cheese against the slightly meaty texture of mushrooms works wonders and if you love deep fried appetizers, do give a shot to their Delhi-Style Fried Chicken, which is sinful but absolutely delicious.

From their tandoori grills, we loved the smoky and succulent White Pepper Chicken Chop, Chelo Kababs served with buttered aromatic Basmati rice and the Khyber-region inspired tender Grilled Burrah Lamb Chops. These melt-in-the mouth delicacies will linger in your memory long after you leave the place. Their signature dum biriyani, slow-cooked over fire with layered ingredients continues to be a part of the menu. Among the curries, we loved the Chicken Bharta, in which the meat is hand-pulled from the bones and prepared in rich tomato-based gravy. And if you love your lamb, you should go for their Roghan Josh, prepared with a special 21-spice blend. For vegetarians, they have retained the Copper Chimney special Paneer Masala and they also have Benaras Malai Kofta and Bazaar Ke Chole on offer. Pair them with hand-tossed rotis, parathas, kulchas, whole wheat roomalis or multi-grain tandoori breads.

The dessert menu offers eclectic variety; consider the Almond Phirni Chikki Crumble – a chilled rice pudding topped with crunchy jaggery nut squares, or the exceptional Muzaffar, a thick Lucknowi rabdi with golden, roasted vermicelli.

If you manage to reach till dessert section, you will leave the place thoroughly satisfied and probably, a little too full. But you surely will come back for more.
